Real Realtime

It's my goal to inform the legal community about
the benefits of using skilled realtime reporters,
and give guidelines on how to find them.

Welcome to Real Realtime!

Real Realtime was created by Mary Ann Payonk, an independent court reporter in Washington, D.C.  This website is intended to dispel some common misconceptions about realtime court reporting.  There are many untrained and inexperienced reporters out there who label themselves realtime reporters.  They do damage to the reporting profession, and an attorney engaging one of these reporters can easily get burned.

Advancing technology has changed the way attorneys practice law.  High-end litigators MUST take advantage of every opportunity to make themselves more effective, including the use of realtime court reporting.  Undoubtedly, realtime used to its full capacity will give you "the edge."

But there are no meaningful standards for the quality of realtime.  You may get a great reporter one day, unreadable hieroglyphics the next.  Entry level only, even national certification doesn't guarantee you'll get realtime you can use ... what I call Real Realtime.

"Real," as in the real deal.  Realtime you can READ.  Delivering what's promised.  Making sure that you, the client, are getting what you pay for.  Providing realtime that will help, not hinder, your effectiveness.

The principles of Real Realtime are simple.  Not all realtime is created equal.  Realtime is a specialty.  A solid 99% translation rate is the foundation for readable realtime.  And the client should ALWAYS get what they pay for.

Realtime ... better, faster, more cost-effective.
